There will also be time to enjoy a coffee or tea here before we continue on our journey out through the Wicklow Gap and further south towards Kilkenny.

Kilkenny is an old English or Norman town with one of Ireland’s most impressive Castles. The castle was owned by the Butler family. At one time the Butlers were one of the most powerful and influential families in all of Ireland and they owned much of the land in Kilkenny. They built many castles and fine houses but Kilkenny Castle was their main accommodation. On making our way to Kilkenny we can have some lunch in this old town of small roads and alleyways. There is a real feel to this town as you make through it of medieval Ireland and it’s Norman past.

There are some other very important buildings in Kilkenny that you may also be interested in. St Canice’s Cathedral, Rothe house and Garden (Old Merchant home Typical of its time) or the Dame Alice Kyteler building. The Bar was named after the first recorded person condemned for witchcraft in Ireland, although she let her servant “Petronilla” take all the punishment.
There are also many fine restaurants and pubs to enjoy your lunch. Your guide will recommend a few depending on what you would like to eat.

After lunch you can visit Kilkenny Castle before your guide brings you through the streets and shows you many other sites of this town.
